Testimonials

My tenure as an intern at UCB was filled with learning and challenges. I started interning during my final year of college, and since I didn't have any professional experience yet, I relied on the short time until graduation to absorb a completely new world for me. This situation made me enter the company completely concerned about how my performance would be. However, this concern was in vain. My internship experience was as accommodating as possible. It was easy to balance work with school, and my tasks reflected a clear learning curve. Any occasional doubts were promptly clarified, allowing me to quickly absorb the functions of the department while also assisting the team's work. As my involvement became more active, I could feel myself developing professionally and socially. This contribution culminated in a internship project aimed at applying all the knowledge acquired to enhance and add value to the company. My work felt useful and rewarding. With all these positive points, there was no way not to continue with this company that had won me over. As the feeling was mutual, I earned my permanent position.

Junior Pre-Sales Analyst

Thirty-two years ago, I began my professional journey. Of these 32 years, 30 were dedicated to UCB. A few months before graduating in Business Administration with a focus on Foreign Trade, I was hired by UCB. Before UCB, I worked at a Japanese bank and a travel agency. I always chose something that had a connection with other countries and cultures. Working in the area I really wanted was essential for the success of my professional journey.

At UCB, I started as an assistant, then became an import analyst, coordinator, until I reached the manager position. I remember the challenges, the achievements, and the various changes I went through. Physical changes, corporate changes, changes in people, policies, bosses, in short, all kinds of changes.

The first big challenge was understanding what my first boss was saying, haha... he was Korean and had a very strong accent. It was complicated until I got used to it. Jokes aside, finding a mentor like Mr. Young was very important. He was very strict and direct. He pointed out without mincing words the points that needed to change. Perhaps, it is what we call feedback today. At the time, this term didn't exist, but feedback was what made me improve and learn a lot. A leader who can always bring out the best in us is very inspiring. It didn't matter if I was an assistant, analyst, supervisor, or manager, I incorporated this owner's mentality. This feeling of ownership made me stronger to withstand the pressures of daily life. Cultivating this mindset helped me, and I ended up being an example for others.

Another big challenge was the transition from a family-owned company to a corporate one. In these moments, insecurity always arises, after all, new executives join and many changes happen. The secret is to always be open to changes. Observe and learn. And it was this ability to adapt to all changes and resilience that made me stay at UCB for so long. Nurturing the feeling of having a shark chasing after me also helped me never stop and always want to innovate. Innovating is a beautiful word and very commonly used nowadays, but deep down for me, INNOVATING is never stopping, always chasing the new to keep surviving. A company can only reach 50 years like UCB if it has the ability to do something new, innovate.

Being loyal and cultivating good relationships with colleagues and managers is also essential in a professional journey. After all, we live more with our colleagues than with our families. The job market essentially presupposes competitiveness, selfishness, and that's why I always tried to maintain positive energy and a spirit of collaboration among people. We only achieve great goals if we have a good team together. And celebrating achievements is only fun in a group, right?

Today, looking in the rearview mirror, I see that I have traveled and helped pave a long road within UCB, and when I look ahead, I am happy to feel that I can still contribute to the company's future. Despite all these years working at UCB and having a special affection for the company, I am aware that what makes me stay is the ability to continue contributing to its growth. And for that, I keep learning always!
